It has come to this time of the year where we leave our somewhat normal lives to head for the high seas. As some of you may know, I love traveling with my little one. I always loved traveling before have a child and I didn't see it as a burden to add a +1. As some adventures may be a little more challenging than the others I always enjoy our expeditions to different destinations.
I think in one of my number one rule as a human being is to let go of what you do not have control over - especially when traveling - it can save your sanity. If we miss a flight there is no need to make a scene we will take the next one and if it happens that the only available is the next day, we will have a great night in a hotel near the airport, who doesn't like room services anyways ?! I think its important to see the positive in everything. Needless to say, I am human and I have my mediocre days but in general I have quite a patient temperament.
First of all, I have learned with my mistakes what and what not to do when traveling with a infant or a toddler. Of course I have only one child and my daughter is only 21 months so, I am aware I do have much more to learn but from what I have gathered over the 10 trips we have done since she was 4 months old enable me to rely on myself with the conviction that in the end everything will be good, great even !
One thing I am nowhere ready to face is traveling alone with my daughter when she will be above 2yrs since some airline oblige you to have a car seat with you on the plane… I am hopeful they will come up with something easy to carry by then … Truth is i am sure they already have invented some convenience patent for traveling parents. Last I research I wasn't so thrilled but hey its 2016 and anything is possible !
I have previously wrote about how I love to cut my trip in half. I rather travel for more days than to do it all at once. As some may not necessarily agree I have found that it is what works better for us, at least up to this point. Since we will be flying from home (EU) to America and that I could not find direct flight from our airport to our final destination we are flying to the UK spending the night in a hotel and the next morning we have a direct flight to the States. Perfect ! It took me 1 month and a half of searching the web to finally find these uh-mazing flights ! Piece of cake ;)
What I don't like about flights from EU to the US is that they either leave too late or too early and they have too many connections. The last thing I want to do with a toddler is to leave my home in the darkness of the morning to fly to some airport and wait 6 hours to then fly for 10 hours… I always take in consideration our time difference. Since our international flight depart at 10am and our flight is 9hours we will land two hours before her bedtime which gives me plenty time to leave the airport and check-into our hotel.
I am so excited for our trip and I will try my best to be posting more often once we are back to our ship life. Land life is somewhat more demanding and I have neglected my blog and my writing. I hope all of you and your families are well. Till next time !
